ECMA welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of Pakistan led by H.E. Mr. Atif Sharif Mian, Ambassador to Ethiopia, Gabon, and Sudan, and Permanent Representative to the African Union.

The discussion explored areas of potential cooperation including:

A key focus was the Islamic Capital Market, where Pakistan, home to one of the world’s largest Islamic capital markets, expressed its willingness to support ECMA in capacity building to advance the development of Ethiopia’s own Islamic Capital Market.

Capital markets development is a key component of the Government of Ethiopia’s
(GoE) Home-Grown Economic Reform Program and the 10-Year Development Plan
(2021- 2031). In line with this commitment, the Capital Markets Proclamation (No.
1248/2021) was adopted by the House of Peoples’ Representatives in June 2021, which
included the establishment of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA).
