ECMA Reviews Performance and Sets Future Directions

The Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) held a performance review and plan implementation meeting to assess its achievements during the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year and discuss priorities for the 2019 Ethiopian fiscal year.

The meeting brought together all ECMA staff to reflect on key accomplishments, review challenges, and align on strategic priorities to further strengthen Ethiopia’s capital market.
During the session, performance reports and plans for the 2019 Ethiopian fiscal year were presented, highlighting major achievements in strengthening the regulatory framework, advancing digital transformation, expanding market participation, and enhancing investor education and awareness initiatives.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to identify areas for improvement and set clear directions for this fiscal year.

In addition to the formal discussions, ECMA staff engaged in team-building activities that encouraged collaboration and strengthened workplace relationships.

Capital markets development is a key component of the Government of Ethiopia’s
(GoE) Home-Grown Economic Reform Program and the 10-Year Development Plan
(2021- 2031). In line with this commitment, the Capital Markets Proclamation (No.
1248/2021) was adopted by the House of Peoples’ Representatives in June 2021, which
included the establishment of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA).
